The Newlanders

The Newlanders Synopsis

In 1788, the MacKinnons, a young Scottish family crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a wooden, 70 foot, sailing vessel.

The 56 day voyage was a hellish experience. Huge waves, a hurricane, typhus, passenger deaths, bilge rats and people "buried at sea". Midway across, young Grace Curry MacKinnon gave birth, under intense circumstances, to her second (of 12 children), Christian MacKinnon.

Arriving in Charles Town, the MacKinnons provisioned a wagon and headed north up the Old Philadelphia Road to Rockingham, North Carolina.

Along the way, they survived an angry bear attack, another monstrous hurricane, marauding-raping highwaymen and are saved and nourished by a friendly tribe of Cherokees.

Settling in Rockingham, the MacKinnons labored and eventually built a successful horse farm and cotton business. It was a colorful place: Local blood feuds, serious horse racing, moonshining, itinerant "preying" preachers, lustful encounters, vicious home invaders, relentless "regulators" (vigilantes), more bears, gators and other assorted predators!

Featuring a colorful and remarkable cast of characters, the MacKinnon story, "The New Landers", is an American epic saga you simply will not put down!
